NAMIBIAN PEOPLE AND TRIBES
Owambo People
They belong to the southwestern Bantu group and they have eight tribes consisting of:
Kwanyama, Ndonga, Kwambi, Ngandjera, Mbalantu, Kwaluudhi, Mbandja, and Nkolonkadhi. Every tribe has their own dialect.

They live primarily in northern Namibia in the four regions called Oshikoto, Oshana, Ohangwena and Omusati. Due to the higher rainfall in these areas they remain cattle and crop (maize and millet) farmers.

During the rainy season floods from the north (efundja) bring fish, these are caught with woven funnels. The Ovambo are also known for their wood carvings and woven baskets.
Their land is distributed by their chief or head man and land cannot be inherited or sold. Most of the senior state officials in Namibia are from the Ovambo tribe.

The Ovambo are the largest tribe concentrated mainly in the north of Namibia making this area densely populated.
