The nearest establishment is Tsumkwe and it has a fuel station, police station, clinic, one lodge and the Mi wi a (means thank you) craft shop. Most people come here to see the San/ Bushmen or the dry sandveld and the panveld. Animals migrate from the panveld during the rainy season to the sandveld and back in the dry season due to limited surface water.

The reserve covers an area of 24 462ha and you can see the sights on foot if you wish. Only day visitors are allowed.
The Mahango Game Reserve is only accessible by 4x4 vehicles. The reserve has rich birdlife of over 300 species to discover.

Formerly known as Kandenga it was later named after Chief Nyangana in appreciation for his permission to start a mission here. The Sacred Heart Nyangana Parish was established in May 1910 and the first church built in 1912. The Nyangana Catholic Hospital is the only hospital in a 50km radius.

The islands of the Linyanti are Nkasa and Lupala. In heavy rainfall years they are only reached by boat, but in drier years you can reach it with a four wheel drive vehicle. The islands offer the wildlife and bird watcher a paradise of animals. Lodges present exclusive accommodation in a tranquil environment with hiking and game drives. There is also a curio shop, restaurant, bar and lounge.

The lake has a depth of 3-5m and spreads for 10 000ha. When it is full boating can be arranged with the locals in a dugout canoe or mukoro. Care should be taken of crocodiles and hippopotamus. The local people depend on the lake for fish.

Katima Mulilo is the administrative centre of the Caprivi region. It has fuel stations, shops, banks, restaurants, bars and at the daily markets a wide variety of goods are for sale. Lodges and guesthouses offer swimming and golf facilities as well as comfortable accommodation. Outstanding fishing opportunities are present with over 70 species of fish in the Zambezi and east Caprivi. They include tiger fish, bottlenose, sharp tooth catfish, banded tilapia and brown spot largemouth.

The Herero people called this place the hill of the leopard and the Nama named it large fountain as it is still known today in Afrikaans. From 1860 two elephant hunters, Green and Eriksson frequented the area and in 1880 a group of white settlers, the Dorsland Trekkers settled here.

Accommodation is available in guest houses, lodges or campsites.
Activities include game drives or a close-up at the waterhole to view Hartmann and Burchell zebra, eland, blesbok, springbuck, black and blue gnu, giraffe and waterbuck. Hiking, swimming, tennis and bird watching can also past the time.

The Herero people came from west of Lake Tanganyika and settled around Okahandja in 1790. The exact date and direction of their trek is uncertain. Regular clashes between the Nama and Herero led to the intervention of the Schutztruppe.
